So what does this mean for writers trying to get published with Random House? Read on:
Videogame publisher THQ will work with book publisher Random House to create original intellectual properties, the companies said Monday.
Both of these publishers seek to create story universes that can be expanded through transmedia storytelling, using multiple platforms to explore the same world and characters. THQ already has experience in the publishing world — the Homefront publisher released a prequel novel, Homefront: The Voice of Freedom, earlier this year. Random House has also shown an interest in videogame production, announcing a collaboration with developer Stardock last month.
We’re hoping that the two companies will release a book about videogames. Or a videogame about books. Or a movie about a videogame that turns people into books.

You know what this means? I’ll tell you what this means. It just slammed open the door to more opportunities for storytellers. Random House is being smart. More young people are being entertained through online games than by reading printed books these days. It just makes sense that they’d create story properties for this growing audience. Storytellers should rejoice and go right out and buy an xBox, if you don’t already have one. Storytelling for the gaming world is a huge and growing market (one I haven’t tapped in to as of yet). Instead of writing a novel, why not develop your story world and make it an online (video game) experience? Perhaps that’s an easier than getting a book deal with RH.
